Musiri Temples

Musiri has been enclave of old Hindu tradition and as  a testimony to fact, the place houses several rich Hindu temples of various Hindu deities, which are monumental and rare, thanks largely to early Chola dynasty, who has showcased their architecture skills

Thiruengomalai Arulmighu Margadeshwari Temple, five kilometres away from Musiri, located in Namakkal – Musiri road is one of the renowned temples in Musiri. It is located on the hillock by name maragadhamalai, where one has to climb 500 steps to reach the temple. As there is no other leeway, other than climbing those 500 steps, it can be treacherous for very old people or physically challenged people to climb.

Temple houses a transparent Lingham, which casts a green light and it is called as Sambha Lingham. The name of place is derived from a Tamil word, which means bee to epitomise an incident that Agathiar, who wanted to enter the temple took the form of bee to go inside it, as it was closed.

Sri Kuranganathar temple in Srinivasanallur, which is located between Musiri and Thuliyur road is another important temple found around Musiri and it is exactly fifty kilometres away from Trichy. It hoards beautifull garbhagriha-and-mandapa style, with sculptures in the entire surface. It can be termed as protype for all southern temples in India. The base of walls has speicla mythical animals by name Yazhi, which is the unique feature of Chola style architecture. It is a thousand years old temple, which is merely fourteen metres long, epitomising the Chola’s style of building temples.

Shiva temple in Shivayam, which is 1.5 kilometres is another major landmark found around Musiri. Sivapureeswarar with Periyanayahi are the major deities in this temple, which houses two gopurams, where one is five storied and another one is three storied. The beautifull and graceful Natrajar statue is another major attraction in this temple. It also comprises of 100 pillar mandapam.

Mariamman temple in a place Kulithalai, which is very near to Musiri is also another eye captivating temple, which one cannot afford to miss and car festival which generally takes place in Summer is highly popular among the tourist and surrounding region.

No doubt, Musiri is land of temples and can be ideal spot for religious tourists, who can be gratified by array of temples on various  Hindu deities, built across various periods of time.
